THE SHOW
Based on the music of Nick Cope (CBEEBIES), ‘Rosie and Hugh’ tells the story of Rosie and her hedgehog friend Hugh, as they attempt to persuade a witch to cast a spell - making it the last day of the summer holidays forever.
THE BRIEF
The cast of five perform all music live, whilst in the guise of a range of characters including a squirrel, a witch, a polar bear, a rusty robot, and many more.
The project involved adjusting and adding to an existing sound design. Key to the project was devising microphone solutions that accommodated both the cast’s rapid costume changes, and the wide array of acoustic instruments used throughout the play.
All of this had to be designed with the Edinburgh Fringe in mind - where everything was to be set and struck at speed every day by only two crew, assisted by the cast.
Both wired and wireless microphones were built into set pieces and props, which the cast could quickly relocate during a very fast-paced show. Extensive playback programming covered the elaborate sound design and sound effects, as well as assisting the operator of the day by automating many of the mic cues required during this sixty-minute show.
